Summer Blooms: A Garden Painting Series

Led by botanical artist and illustrator Imogen Joyce, this three part summer workshop series invites participants to slow down, reconnect with nature, and find a moment of calm within the beauty of Easton walled Gardens. Each session blends gentle mindfulness with observational drawing and painting, encouraging people to appreciate the small details in daily life and the natural world. Through accessible watercolour techniques and guided creative exploration, participants will learn how to look closely, breathe deeply, and create artwork inspired by the garden’s seasonal blooms. Session 1: The Art of Noticing , Sunday 7th June 3pm – 5pm This session begins with simple guided meditation techniques focussed on the art of noticing – helping you to slow down, tune into your senses and become fully present in the garden. You will then move on to a detailed drawing and watercolour session around the gardens. Observe closely, explore texture and form, and translate these quiet moments into expressive studies on paper. Session 2: Seasonal Stems, Sunday 2nd August 3pm – 5pm In this session, you will be guided through a mindful exploration of the garden’s midsummer blooms, close observation and a deep appreciation of the forms, textures and rhythms found in each stem. Beginning with gentle warmup exercises and loose watercolour studies, helping to relax into the process and capture the essence of each flower through expressive colour and shape. Techniques will be introduced for building more detailed botanical paintings -exploring structure and layering. Session 3: Stories in bloom Sunday 6th September 3pm – 5pm Starting with a an introduction to folklore, emotional associations, and cultural symbolism of selected late summer flowers. You will be encouraged to reflect on how these stories resonate with their own experiences, and how narrative can shape the way we see and paint the natural world. From this you will complete a series of drawing and watercolour activities that move between expressive sketching and more detailed botanical studies. You’ll explore how line, colour, and compassion can be used to communicate mood, memory and meaning – allowing you to create artwork that feels both personal and connected to the garden. Tickets are £60 for each session. All materials are provided on the day.

Sweet Pea Season

In late June and throughout July, treat your senses to the visual delights of perfect blooms in stripes, bicolours, picotee, light pastels and deep velvet tones. Then take in the sweet smells that give the sweet pea its scientific name Lathyrus odoratus.

Summer Tree Tour
