Charles Hanson

Charles believes an auction to be a place of theatre and entertainment, with high excitement, drama and tension. His charmingly enthusiastic manner of auctioneering has also seen him preside over prestigious celebrity and fundraising auctions across the UK. In recent times he has been honoured to auction at the inaugural Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust ball, and for the Strictly Come Dancing Bargain Hunt auction for Children In Need at the Etwall Auction Centre, not to mention a star studded BBC Children in Need auction.

Having begun his career at Christies in London, Charles established Hansons Auctioneers in 2005. The Auction Centre is host to monthly Antiques and Collectables Auctions covering fine art, specialist coins, textiles, toys, wine, books, Oriental works of art, armoury and stamps. They have been privileged to see a wide range of exciting objects go ‘under the hammer’, including Queen Victoria’s bloomers!

Charles regularly appears on BBC shows Flog It!, The Antiques Road Trip and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, alongside the BBC’s Bargain Hunt, where he can be seen throughout the year as both expert and auctioneer.

Kate Bliss

We are delighted that Kate Bliss will be joining Charles at Easton Walled Gardens as a consultant in the specialist areas of antique and modern jewellery, and silver. Kate is well known to many through her television appearances as an expert in her field.

Encountering antiques from an early age whilst helping in her father’s saleroom in Herefordshire, Kate read English Literature at Brasenose College, Oxford, before going on to study Fine Art. As a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, she became the youngest shareholder and auctioneer at a leading provincial auction house; and after gaining over seven years’ experience on the rostrum, Kate went on to specialise in jewellery and silver. and has been appointed Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

In addition to her work with Hansons, Kate currently combines the running of her own Fine Art valuation business with her regular television appearances as an antiques expert on the BBC’s Flog It!, and of course on Bargain Hunt, where she has worked with Charles for over eight years.
