Sweet Pea 'Toffee Apple'

Lathyrus odoratus 'Toffee Apple'

A very floriferous, old fashioned grandiflora sweet pea discovered at Easton Walled Gardens. Good scent and the red flowers contrast well with the green foliage. Highly recommended.

Originally from stock of Winston Churchill, this beautiful red sweet pea had reverted to the older smaller type and threw out masses of flowers that are good for picking. The resulting flower is very charming, especially for garden decoration, and has a good scent. In 2020, after a couple of years of trialling, we felt confident enough to give it a name: ‘Toffee Apple.’ The green foliage and red flowers make an engaging combination reminiscent of a Grannie Smith apple coated with red caramel.
