About Easton Walled Gardens
Originally created as a series of stone-walled enclosures surrounding a medieval manor, Easton Walled Gardens has undergone significant transformation over the centuries. From its Tudor and Jacobean origins, marked by features like melon pits and intricate plantings, to the Victorian era, which introduced ornate bedding, the gardens have evolved with each passing period. After the demolition of Easton Hall in 1951, the gardens fell into disrepair, becoming overrun by nature and largely forgotten.
In the early 2000s, the Cholmeley family began a thoughtful restoration, breathing new life into the once-neglected gardens. Today, Easton Walled Gardens seamlessly blend historical charm with modern horticultural techniques. Visitors can wander through an array of distinct areas, including the serene Yew Tunnel, the vibrant Cut Flower Garden, the charming Cottage Garden, and the playful Turf Maze. The changing seasons bring beauty to the garden, with snowdrops, sweet peas, roses, and wildlife-filled meadows. The River Witham gently winds its way through the landscape, enhancing the peaceful ambiance. Our ongoing restoration efforts focus on innovative planting designs that respect the traditional English garden aesthetic, creating a space where nature and people can flourish in harmony.
